ICC (Illinois Central College) Land Laboratory in East Peoria
Master Gardeners at ICC gather as a group on Tuesday mornings at 9:00 to care for fourteen demonstration plots, the herb garden, and the Japanese Gardens. Our work begins the last week or two of April and we work through October. Yes, we do weed, but we also collaborate regarding design, what to plant, watering and more. During July, we also assist with the Little Gardeners’ Big Day sponsored with Master Gardeners from Peoria and Tazewell Counties. A couple of times during the year we have a meal and assess what we have done and set goals for the future. Working at ICC is also a learning experience in that we have access to the former staff and present staff when we have questions regarding our gardens or plants. Note: we do start earlier when the weather is really hot and after one learns what needs to be done, s/he goes to the garden when time is convenient.
